M C & G  Bridge Studio   10-Jun-2018

Tip of the Week:
After we have found a major-suit fit, subsequent suit bids tend not to be natural (because we already know where we want to play – our major suit). As such, we repurpose the meanings of the other suits – a new suit at a level where we can stop below game (such as 1S-2S-3C) tends to be a help-suit game try, whereas a new suit at a level where we cannot stop below game (such as 1S-3S-4C) tends to be a control bid. Discuss with your partner(s) different bidding sequences and how new suits should be interpreted!

Kudos & Congratulations

Congratulations to Linda Meldrum and Colin Binnington for their 71.25% game Thursday Evening!

Also, kudos to all those who came out to the Bridge-in-a-Day on Saturday!

Special Game & Events this Week
We have a diverse amount of special games this week! Firstly, we have our NAP qualifier games – an extra dollar offers red points and the chance to qualify for the NAP District Finals, being held:

·        Monday 11th, 12:30pm – Open Game

·        Tuesday 12th, 7:00pm – Open game

·        Wednesday 13th, 9:00am – Open game

Additionally, we have the Canada-Wide Olympiad Fund game this Wednesday afternoon at our 299ers game.

Our upcoming Up the Ranks game is going to be held this Saturday, June 16th, and offers silver points! This 0-1000 team game is always a fun time – if you’ve never played in a team game before, this is the one you should try! If you’ve got any questions as to what a team game is, simply ask Victor or Kathie, and they will be sure to explain them to you.

Our Mentoring pairs game is continuing this week. While we have mentors and mentees matched up already, we may still be able to accommodate more players (particularly Mentors). Email Margie (at margieknickle@gmail.com) if interested (either as a mentor or as a mentee)!

Save the Date!

Thursday, June 21st is the Longest Day! This is a sunrise to sunset day filled with bridge, with proceeds going to support stopping and preventing Alzheimer’s. We have eight 12-board games that run during the day, the first one starting at 6:30am, and the last one starting at 7:15pm. Come for one or stay for the day!

Improve your Bridge/Students of the Game

Starting Tuesday, June 12th, at 9:30am, we will be running a Bridge Basics 1 Course (Intro to Bridge). If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please let us know, so we know how many to anticipate!

Thursday at 9:30am – Gary should be back this week for his Quiz followed by the play of some hands (with Gary’s commentary accompanying them)! We look forward to seeing you there!

This week’s quiz:

Per usual, the quiz is attached to this email, as is the answer to last week’s quiz. Alternatively, you can click <quiz>
